Text: 1 Samuel 1-2
Introduction: Seems to me that Fathers
day isn't as big a deal as Mothers' day. Men just aren't in to getting
gifts and such as the ladies are. However, I do try to have some
fun with the day.
I had one man, a real macho type, in Astoria who always complained
that I did so much for Mothers' day and not enough for Fathers' day.
One year I presented a rose to him for Fathers' day - made a big deal out
of it - had him come forward and I gave a short speech. As
rough and tough logger type as he was, he ate it up!
This year I am going to give a lapel pin to each dad in the service.
On top of that, I am going to have three short contests; 1. A sword drill
with only dads involved, 2. The thickest wallet (use a seamstresses tape
and play like we are going to measure their wait's) 3. Most keys.
I am going to give mixed nuts as the awards.
Everyone says good things about Hannah - mothers' day messages about
how wonderful she was. WHAT ABOUT HER HUSBAND? He would have
had to agree to Hannah's desire.
I. HIS MISTAKE - vs 2 -Two wives
A. Took God's word that "it
was not good for man to be alone" too far!
B. Too much of anything will
make you ill!
II. HIS DEVOTION - vs 3
A. For God (vs 3)
B. For Hannah (vs 5,8)
III. HIS INABILITY - vs 19 - Could not give what
Hannah really wanted.
A. Only God can meet our
real needs.
B. Ladies, don't make your
husband be something he cannot be.
C. Be content that
he loves you and get your needs met by God!
IV. HIS PATIENCE - vs 23 - Put up with Hannah
V. HIS GIFT TO GOD - ch2 vs 11 -
A major sacrifice for a father to give up his son!
VI. HIS REWARD FROM GOD - ch 2 vs 20-21
